About Tanya

Hi, my name is Tanya Weiler and I am a counsellor and consultant, living and working in London, Ontario. I hold a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto and I'm a Registered Social Worker in the Province of Ontario. I am currently working towards a PhD in Health Sciences at the University of Western Ontario.

In 1993 I graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. I completed the Bachelor of Social Work degree from King's University College in 1997.  Upon receiving my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Toronto in 1998, I began a career in health and social service policy.

My first job took me to the City of Calgary where I worked two years for the municipal government coordinating Calgary's Affordable Housing & Homelessness Initiative.

In 2000, I joined the (then named) Calgary Health Region as the Leader of Health Public Policy, in this role I advised the organization on health policy positions and advocated to government and professional organizations for policy change. I held several management positions in the Health Promotion & Disease Prevention Department during my six-year tenure.

Following my time in Calgary, I returned to my hometown of London, Ontario; where I accepted a position as an Integration Consultant with the newly formed South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). In this role, I consulted with professional and geographic communities to coordinate services for chronic disease prevention and management, and diabetes.

I had always felt that my true 'calling' was in clinical social work. In 2009, I decided to return to the counselling 'roots' and was accepted into the Advanced Internship Program with Family Service Thames Valley. Through the internship, I was able to hone my counselling skills working with individuals and couples and become grounded as a therapist.

Since 2018, I have been contracted with Calian to provide clinical social work services to military service members through the Department of National Defense.

I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

My current doctoral work blends together my interests in both policy and clinical practice.
