What is counselling?
Counselling is a focused conversation between you (the client) and me (the therapist). The goal of counselling is to help you identify your goals and for us to work together to explore any issues that are keeping you from achieving them. Counselling can help you make wise decisions, communicate more effectively and learn skills to manage depression and anxiety.
Will counselling be confidential?
Confidentiality is assured unless written consent has been obtained from the client. However, there are situations (such as the neglect or abuse of a child, or if clients present a danger to themselves or others) when counsellors are obligated to report information to relevant authorities. The confidentiality policy will be reviewed with you during your first appointment.
What are the fees?
My fees are $120 for a 60 minute session. Many private insurance companies will provide some coverage for the services of a Registered Social Worker. Please call your insurance company ahead of your appointment to confirm coverage.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
It is normal to feel nervous about your first meeting with a counsellor; but most people find after a few minutes that they relax and are able to talk about their concerns openly. When you meet with me, I will ask you to fill out an intake form and tell me about the issue that has brought you to counselling. During your first session, we will work together to create goals. These goals will help keep you focused and allow us to see if you are making progress.
